The New England Patriots have one of the best backup quarterbacks in the league in Jimmy Garoppolo. Should the Jacksonville Jaguars pursue him?

This offseason, one of the biggest stories in the NFL was about what the New England Patriots would do with Jimmy Garoppolo. As a talented young backup, the Patriots likely would have received a good haul for Garoppolo if they were to trade him.

As the regular season is now a month away, the Patriots still have Garoppolo as the backup to Brady. Entering the final year of his rookie deal, Garoppolo will be a free-agent at the end of the season.

The Patriots are going to have some tough decisions to make about Garoppolo, as a lot will likely depending on how much longer they believe Tom Brady can play for. With many teams in the NFL having a need at the quarterback position, Garoppolo won’t have a problem finding a starting job somewhere.

One of the teams that make a lot of sense for Garoppolo is the Jacksonville Jaguars. As a team that has been drafting in the top 10 of the NFL Draft for many years now, the Jaguars have been able to stockpile some young talent. However, the one position they haven’t been able to find in the draft is a quarterback.

A few years ago, the Jaguars took Blake Bortles early in the first round. Bortles came out of college with a lot of the physical tools that a team would like to have a quarterback. Unfortunately for Bortles and the Jaguars, he regressed in his third season instead of progressing. Now, the Jaguars have a mess at quarterback.

With the 2017 season looking like another difficult one at the quarterback position for the Jaguars, Garoppolo would make a lot of sense for them. After an impressive showing in a small sample size last season, Garoppolo will once again be one of the names talked about heavily this offseason.

While we likely won’t know the plan for Garoppolo until the end of the season, it would be hard to imagine that the Patriots let him leave without getting anything in return. For the Jaguars, the time might have come to give up on Bortles and pursue other options. As a good young quarterback, Garoppolo certainly makes sense for them.
