The Tennessee Titans and Detroit Lions were two teams who brought in former Buffalo Bills strong safety George Wilson for a workout, and both safety-hungry teams were eager to add Wilson. The Titans, according to a report from top beat writer Jim Wyatt, have signed the 31-year-old to a multi-year deal and have thus solved their problem at strong safety.

Stew Milne-USA TODAY Sports

The signing of George Wilson means that Jordan Babineaux is almost certainly done playing in Tennessee, and there is no doubt that Wilson presents an upgrade. Even though he is getting up there in age, Wilson was still graded by the Pro Football Focus as one of the top ten safeties in the NFL. He possesses very good coverage skills, is stout against the run, is an adept pass rusher, and Wilson is also a leader. He was a captain and NFLPA rep while with the Bills.

The Bills decision to release Wilson was one that I viewed with a critical eye, while the signing of Wilson is an excellent deal for the Titans. The veteran SS was not courted by as many teams as I thought he would be, and Wilson is an underrated player in this league. The Titans are getting a very good safety, and Wilson is a guy I thought the New England Patriots should have taken a look at.

Wilson was expected to visit with more teams, per Jason La Canfora around last week, but it seems like the only teams that formally sought him were the Lions and Titans. No matter, though, as Wilson has found his team and gotten himself a multi-year pact.
