This New England Patriots Rundown is filled with 2013 NFL Draft content, as well as some quick-hit thoughts on trade rumors regarding two AFC East teams.

Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY Sports

1. Florida State Seminoles defensive end Cornelius “Tank” Carradine would have been one of the top ten draft prospects this year had it not been for an ACL tear he sustained last season, because he has a great blend of speed and strength and had plenty of production before going down with the injury. Carradine visited the Patriots, and he has been mocked a number of times to New England at 29. However, it looks like Carradine has rehabbed himself out of the Patriots range.

Carradine ran a 4.75 forty at his pro day.

2. Tony Pauline reports that there is a 75% chance- citing a source- that the New York Jets trade star cornerback Darrelle Revis to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers next week, and it’s pretty much a guarantee that Revis is gone. The Bucs and Jets are getting closer to agreeing on the draft picks to be sent to the Jets, and Revis and the Buccaneers already have the financial details down. The highest I would go for Revis is a first-round pick and a conditional draft pick in the later rounds. Now with the Jets netting the 13th pick in the draft, who should they get? Leave your say in the comments.

3. The Kansas City Chiefs gave the Miami Dolphins permission to talk to left tackle Branden Albert, and Mike Jurecki reported yesterday that the Dolphins and Albert were negotiating a contract. In a trade, the Dolphins would send two second-rounders to the Chiefs, and then they would have their new starting left tackle to replace Jake Long. As far as the financial numbers go, expect Albert to get something around what William Beatty received from the New York Giants. Adding Albert would obviously change the Dolphins draft strategy, and I would think that they would try and trade down from the 12th pick instead of trading up for Lane Johnson.

4. Oregon State Beavers wide receiver Markus Wheaton is an ideal pick for the New England Patriots in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft, because he would give the Patriots a much-needed vertical threat. Wheaton is the best vertical threat in this draft class with his speed and ability to make defenses pay after the catch, and Luke Hughes of NESN provides a good take on Wheaton.

5. Let’s take a look at some 2013 NFL Mock Drafts. NE Patriots Draft is my favorite site for checking out mocks, and this is a link to their most recent mock. In this one, the New England Patriots select Clemson Tigers standout wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins, and it’s a pick that I am in agreement with. Hopkins can readily produce, and he has No. 1 potential.

6. Now this is great, because it touches on all the draft prospects talked about in this “Rundown” piece. MassLive.com’s excellent beat writer Nick Underhill released his 2013 NFL Mock draft, and he has the Houston Texans taking Hopkins, the Denver Broncos taking Carradine, and then the Patriots snatching Datone Jones off the board. The UCLA Bruins defensive lineman has become a popular pick in mock drafts for the Patriots, and Underhill writes, “New England has a bigger need at wide receiver, but Jones, who can play both on the inside and outside, may be too good to pass.” That’s why Jones is such a popular pick for the Patriots; he can excel as a pass rusher on the edge or on the interior.

7. The Boston Herald’s Jeff Howe has been writing excellent draft breakdowns these days, and he actually broke down Datone Jones yesterday. This piece is well-worth the read, and he talks about how Jones’s interior presence will stamp out a need for the Patriots.

Although there are teams interested in acquiring Darrelle Revis from the New York Jets, there are less teams interested than many of us expected. Teams like the Atlanta Falcons and San Francisco 49ers have toned down the talk of them being interested in acquiring Revis, and I never thought trading for Revis was the best plan for the 49ers anyway.

William Perlman/The Star-Ledger via USA TODAY Sports

Apparently, the Denver Broncos feel like acquiring Revis isn’t the best thing for their team, and this is interesting since the Broncos were expected to be one of the main teams involved in a trade for Revis. In fact, Jeff Legwold of the Denver Post made a strong statement against a Revis-Broncos deal by tweeting, “the Broncos have NO intention of acquiring Revis.”

So who does? The only team I have heard linked to trading for Darrelle Revis- outside of the three teams above that likely aren’t interested- is the Philadelphia Eagles. Jeff McLane wrote an excellent article today in the Philadelphia Inquirer about why the Eagles should acquire Revis, and he wrote that there are rumors Howie Roseman is taking a close look at swinging a deal to bring Revis to the Philadelphia Eagles.

A deal to get Revis would make sense for the Eagles, but it actually wouldn’t have made sense for the Broncos. I really think Denver’s cornerback situation is fine, and their focus should turn to the safety position instead. If they can add a legitimate safety, then I think their secondary will be fine.

As for the Jets, they will be able to find a trade partner and get some nice pieces out of a deal for Revis. But Revis’s camp is increasing the pressure on the Jets to get a deal done, thus increasing the chances that the Jets don’t get what they want out of a deal. The Jets could keep Revis, but that probably won’t work out for them if he wants a lucrative deal (which he will) due to the Jets huge cap issues. Count the Broncos as a team that won’t be going after Revis, and the Jets can only hope that other teams are still interested.

The Philadelphia Eagles may or may not release Nnamdi Asomugha, but we do know that Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie is slated to hit free agency and the Eagles are almost certainly going to let the free agent bust go. The team has reportedly shown interest in free agent CBs like Sean Smith of the Miami Dolphins, and they need to sign at least one CB in order to shore up their secondary this offseason. However, they might get their upgrade not by signing a free agent corner, but rather by trading for a CB.

Ed Mulholland-USA TODAY Sports

The New York Jets will likely end up dealing Darrelle Revis, because they are reluctant to give one of their best players the lucrative extension he desires. I certainly don’t blame them, because Revis is going to come at a very high price for a team under the most economic duress of any franchise. The Jets might also have lingering concerns related to the ACL tear he suffered last season, and that may make them more reluctant to give such a deal to Revis.

From Eagles beat writer Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer , “There’s already a rumor brewing in certain NFL circles that Eagles general manager Howie Roseman has been crunching the numbers and putting together an offer to bring the 27-year-old Revis to Philadelphia.”

I highly recommend reading that piece from McLane above, because he gives an excellent argument in favor of the Eagles making a trade to acquire Revis. The Eagles need an upgrade at corner, all they have are two free agent busts who will probably leave, and this deal makes sense from a financial standpoint since the team can afford to give him an extension. It is a risk, but it’s actually less risky than giving a bloated deal to a guy like Sean Smith.

The Eagles will likely have to package their 35th pick with something else in order to pry Darrelle Revis from the New York Jets, and I am sure the Jets would be willing to send Revis to Philadelphia if the price is right. The Jets aren’t simply going to give him away, but the pressure to deal him as increased thanks in part to Revis’s camp. They will do whatever it takes to help their own franchise in this state, and thus the Jets would be interested in dealing Revis to the Eagles if Howie Roseman feels it is worth the risk. Like McLane, I agree with him.

You can follow Joe Soriano on Twitter @SorianoJoe.

Those rumors may or may not be right, but I am willing to bet the Eagles are at least exploring the option.
