Former Ohio State Buckeyes standout right tackle Reid Fragel is finally starting to make some noise and is a sleeper in the 2013 NFL Draft. According to draft analyst Tony Pauline, the New England Patriots, New York Giants, Miami Dolphins, Detroit Lions, Chicago Bears, and Cincinnati Bengals are all set to host Fragel on pre-draft visits. Pauline calls Fragel “possibly the most underrated RT” in his year’s draft class.

Jeff Hanisch-USA TODAY Sports

Fragel seems to be an unknown to most fans, but those who know him know that he has the ability to be a solid starting right tackle at the pro level. All of the teams interested in him could use a tackle, and the Giants, Dolphins, and Lions seem to be the best three fits for him. D.J. Fluker of Alabama has been frequently mocked to the Giants, and they would like to go younger on the offensive line and add a right tackle. The Dolphins lost Jake Long and are set to move Jonathan Martin to left tackle in his second seasons, while the Lions lost the talented but inconsistent RT Gosder Cherilus to the Indianapolis Colts in this free agent period.

The New England Patriots seem to be looking hard at the right tackle position, because it was reported earlier today that they would host Fluker on a pre-draft visit. I’ve always thought the Pats would show interest in another tackle for depth, but it seems like they don’t need to go that direction. They did re-sign Sebastian Vollmer to a four-year deal, signed former Atlanta Falcons quality backup Will Svitek, and they are reportedly high on third-year right tackle Marcus Cannon. However, it also sounds like the Patriots are set to move Cannon to guard, and I’ll have a piece up on that later.

For the Patriots, the best move to make if they want a tackle is to draft a guy later on in the draft like Reid Fragel where there is talent and a good value. Drafting Fluker in the late first would make little sense for the Patriots, and he probably won’t last until there. Even if he does, the Pats are still better off going elsewhere in the first (like wide receiver or cornerback).

Fragel is an incredibly aggressive right tackle who excels in run blocking, he has great athleticism and size, but he has significant strength issues that cause him to struggle against bull rushers who can overpower him in pass protection.

The Buffalo Bills made a nice move to start off free agency by adding former Cincinnati Bengals and San Francisco 49ers outside linebacker Manny Lawson to a contract over four years, per Adam Caplan via Twitter. Lawson is a solid, scheme-versatile OLB who plays the run tough and can put consistent pressure on the quarterback. While he doesn’t get many sacks, Lawson brings the heat and influences the quarterback’s decisions in the pocket.

Daniel Shirey-USA TODAY Sports

Although Lawson didn’t have his best year last season, he still made a decent impact as a pass rusher and was average against the run. However, he struggled mightily in coverage, and one of the reasons why he is better in a 3-4 than a 4-3 is because of his coverage skills. Still, Lawson makes a lot of sense for the Bills, because they could really use another strong-side pass rusher in the 4-3.

I think Manny Lawson will be able to win the starting gig, and the Bills have big plans for him judging by the fact that they gave the 28-year-old N.C. State product a four-year contract. Lawson didn’t seem to have a big market, and the Bengals didn’t seem too cautious with regards to keeping him in Cincy.

The Bills are getting somebody who can make a strong impact against the run at outside linebacker, and that’s something the Bills could definitely use. They should also like the boost that he gives them in pass protection, and they are better off allowing him to go after the quarterback rather than move back into coverage. Even though that doesn’t happen often for 4-3 OLBs- especially when compared to the duties of a 3-4 OLB- Lawson can be used in that manner.

The Detroit Lions are a perfect fit for Miami Dolphins running back Reggie Bush, who is as good as gone in the Dolphins eyes. The ‘Fins seem content to use Lamar Miller as their feature back going forward, and Jeff Ireland and the Dolphins front office are extremely high on Bush’s future outlook. The Lions, on the other hand, could use a playmaker in the backfield in Bush, especially since his pass-catching ability would be a big help for Matthew Stafford. One of the Lions main goals in building their offense is to add as many weapons as possible to surround Stafford, and that’s why they have also been showing interest in wide receivers in the pre-draft process like Justin Hunter, Cordarrelle Patterson, and Robert Woods.

Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

It was previously expected that the Lions would add Bush as the No. 2 back behind feature back Mike LeShoure, who would take the brunt of the carries whilst Bush received all the looks on passing downs. But now, Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports is reporting that sources are telling him that the Lions are prepared to give Reggie Bush the starting role over LeShoure, and that would almost guarantee that the Lions will sign Bush.

Right now, the only other team linked to Bush is the Cincinnati Bengals, but I highly doubt they are going to offer Bush the starting gig. Reports from the Detroit Free Press indicated that Bush is set to get $5 million from the Lions, and he would be wise to take that money and the starting gig in the Lions backfield.

Not only would Bush receive plenty of targets with the Lions, but he would also get the brunt of the workload on the ground and have a shot at getting 1,000 yards again. On the Lions, Bush would be a big playmaker and get a nice paycheck from a team that views him as a great fit. But is Bush is a great fit for the Lions as a starter too? He makes perfect sense as a No. 2 back behind LeShoure, but the question is whether or not Bush can be that good on the ground for them. I have a feeling LeShoure will steal plenty of carries from Bush, but the Lions seem content with giving Bush the most carries of the two. Is that the best way to go about business? It depends on if Bush plays more like he did in 2011 than 2012 on the ground, and it could be a risk worth taking.

Bush definitely views himself as a starter after averaging 4.7 yards per carry on nearly 450 rushes with the Miami Dolphins, and he will get plenty more targets with the Lions. For Bush, picking Detroit seems like a no-brainer, and I think this move will work out for the Lions- as long as they don’t give him too many years.
