What would a defense of only ex-New England Patriots players look like? Here is a breakdown of what this unit could be.

The second part of our look at the former New England Patriots players still playing in the NFL a.k.a. the “New England Ex-Pats” is now here, (Part One can be seen here). Each position group is broken down into those who made the roster and those that didn’t.

I have also ordered it best to worst in terms of current ability.  If I have missed any players or if you disagree with any of the assessments, let me know in the comments below.

Defensive Ends

Right End – Chandler Jones (Cardinals)

Left End – Chris Long (Eagles)

2nd String – Terrell McClain (Redskins)

2nd String – Anthony Johnson (Jets)

Cut in Camp – Zach Moore (49ers)

Despite the fact that Chandler Jones has been re-cast as an outside linebacker in Arizona, his return to the greater Boston area would see him fulfill his hand-in-the-dirt role he had with the Patriots.

The strong defensive end roster continues with Chris Long. Although he is admittedly past his prime, he is still a mid-level starter in the NFL. McClain only spent a week with the Patriots in 2012 but since then his career has vastly improved, starting 15 games for the Cowboys last year.

At just over 300lbs, he is not a traditional 4-3 end but could be used in 3-man rush packages. Johnson is in a similar mold to McClain as he is more comfortable as a 3-4 end. Moore misses out having managed very little during his time in the NFL and will be clinging to his career come final cuts in August.
