In the second installment of the Patriots Roster Recap series, we break down how New England’s running back group will look in 2017.

The New England Patriots made several tweaks to their running back stable this offseason. In addition to signing two backs ahead of the draft, New England gave Super Bowl standout James White a well-earned contract extension. The team was also able to retain special teams ace Brandon Bolden and enhance the possibility of a LeGarrette Blount return.

As it stands, the Patriots will head into camp with seven running backs, not including LeGarrette Blount. The team will have allocated $11.5 million to the running back position for 2017, per Spotrac.com. In 2016, New England spent only $4.08 million on running backs.

The Patriots combined for 1,872 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns in 2016, ranking seventh in the NFL. A big improvement from last season when they ranked thirtieth in the league.

Here’s how New England can add to their success in 2016 with help from their newest additions.
