The New England Patriots were big sellers during last week’s NFL Draft. What players were taken with New England’s picks, and did the Patriots make the right moves?

The New England Patriots entered the 2017 NFL Draft as one of the league’s most active shoppers. With the meat of their selections packaged and moved in offseason trades, the Patriots possessed only six picks in last week’s draft.

Leading up to the draft, New England had two third-round picks (72, 96) and a fourth-round selection (131) and with fifth (183), sixth (200) and seventh-round choices (239). Among the departed draft picks were one each in the first (32), second (64) and third rounds (103, from the Cleveland Browns), two in the fourth (137, the second pick was forfeited), two in the fifth (163, 175), one in the sixth (215), and one in the seventh (250).

On Day 2, the Patriots traded their third (72) and sixth-round (200) picks to the Tennessee Titans for their third (83) and fourth-round (124) selections, as well as their third (96) and fourth-round (124, from Tennessee) picks to the Detroit Lions for their third-round (85) choice. New England also traded its fifth-round (183) pick to the Kansas City Chiefs for their sixth-round (216) selection and tight end James O’Shaughnessey. Kansas City’s pick would eventually be sent to the Dallas Cowboys along with the Patriots’ seventh-round (239) selection for the Cowboys’ sixth-round (211) choice.

By the end of the draft, New England had traded a combined 13 picks, plus the fifth-rounder the team sent to the Buffalo Bills for restricted free-agent running back Mike Gillislee.

Let’s take a look at what other teams did with those picks, and who the Patriots potentially could have drafted with them…
