The New England Patriots have two picks on Day two of the NFL Draft. When will they be on the clock?

After not having a pick on Thursday night during the first round, the New England Patriots will finally be on the clock on Friday night.

Due to a trade with the New Orleans Saints, the Patriots were without a pick in the first round. However, they got a great wide receiver in Brandin Cooks in return. Overall, it was a good deal for New England.

Shortly after acquiring Cooks, the Patriots traded their second round pick to the Carolina Panthers for Kony Ealy and the Panthers’ third round pick. Ealy will provide the Patriots with a proven NFL pass rusher, and should fit nicely in their rotation of defensive ends.

Since the Patriots acquired the Panthers’ pick as well, the trade to acquire Ealy really only cost the Patriots a few spots in the NFL Draft. In the third round, the Patriots will be on the clock with the 72nd overall pick from the PanthersAfter the Patriots select early in the third round, then they will be using their own pick at 96th overall.

Patriots Picks:

Third round, 72nd overall

Third round, 96th overall

In a deep draft class, the Patriots might be able to get some talented players with their two picks in the third round. With the offense being somewhat set, these two picks will likely be going to the defensive side of the ball.

Cornerback and edge rusher are certainly two needs for the Patriots, as they could use some depth at those two positions. However, with two picks, the possibility of the Patriots making a deal is always there.
