The New York Jets recently released cornerback Darrelle Revis. Should the New England Patriots have a reunion with their former player?

In their attempt to clear cap space, the New York Jets recently released former New England Patriots cornerback Darrelle Revis. With the Patriots, Revis only play one season in New England, but he was able to help them win a Super Bowl against the Seattle Seahawks.

After the solid 2014 season with New England, Revis turned that into a massive contract with the Jets. Revis was originally drafted by the Jets, but they ended up trading him to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after a contract dispute. With a new regime in New York, Revis decided to take the money and return to New York.

In 2015, Revis played pretty well for the Jets. After suffering a wrist injury late in the season, Revis struggled at the end of the season because of his inability to jam wide receivers at the line.

After having wrist surgery in the offseason, Revis came into Jets camp out of shape. As a cornerback, speed is everything, and Revis looked a step slow in 2016. In the first game of the season, Revis was schooled by A.J. Green in a Jets loss.

Seeing Green win the matchup against Revis didn’t mean much, as Green is one of the best wide receivers in the NFL. The following week, however, Revis was burned by Bills wide receivers that weren’t named Sammy Watkins. In that game, it was clear that Revis was no longer playing at an elite level.

Even though there were a lot of players that struggled on the Jets last season, Revis got a lot of attention for his quick decline. Due to his high cap number, Revis was an easy choice to be released by the Jets.

As a free agent now, Revis is looking for a new team to play for. As a former player for the Patriots, some have raised the question if a reunion could be possible. There is no denying that Revis played excellent for the Patriots. However, he hasn’t looked like anywhere close to that player for a little over a year.

Even though the Patriots might trade Malcolm Butler, Revis is a player that the Patriots should avoid as a free agent. After showing up out of shape for the Jets last season, Revis’ heart has been questioned. A player that might not care anymore is certainly one to avoid.
