Patriots wide receiver Danny Amendola is one of the most underrated cogs in the New England machine, and he leads off today’s dose of Patriots news…

Amendola went on ESPN’s ‘NFL Insiders’ yesterday, and said he felt really good in regards to the procedures he underwent this offseason.

Mike Reiss of ESPN Boston gives us the scoop:

"“I feel really good. I had a couple minor procedures done after the season. Everybody knows how long the season can be. I wanted to go into next season feeling as fresh and ready as I can,” Amendola said on ESPN’s NFL Insiders.Amendola’s situation was previously referred to as “minor” and “not a long-term” concern, according to sources, although he did not participate in spring practices."

This is obviously good news to hear. As I previously stated, Amendola is one of the most underrated pieces of this Patriots offense. Everybody talks about Julian Edelman, Rob Gronkowski and Dion Lewis, and rightfully so. However, Amendola has proven time and time again that he will come up with clutch receptions, and more importantly, Tom Brady trusts him.

Trust is such a key aspect of an efficient offense in today’s NFL, especially in an offense like this. Brady’s receivers run a ton of option routes, so the quarterback must be able to trust his receivers and be on the same page with them. Bringing in Chris Hogan this offseason will certainly help the team, but having old reliable guys like Amendola is just as important.

Staying in-house, here is Connor Fulton’s breakdown of rookie offensive lineman Ted Karras. The Pats are loaded along the interior of the offensive line this year, so it may be tough for Karras to break into the rotation. We’ll see how it plays out.
