This is the 15th installment in a 17-part series in which we are forecasting what 2016 holds in store for each member of the New England Patriots’ rookie class. Today, we’re forecasting former Ole Miss defensive tackle Woodrow Hamilton (yesterday, we looked at we forecasted another Ole Miss product, linebacker C.J. Johnson).

Power ranking offseason cornerback additions

The skinny: The Patriots signed Hamilton back on May 6th along with a slew of other undrafted rookies. A starter in 25 of 47 career games at Ole Miss, Hamilton 83 tackles, three sacks and one pass defensed over his college years. As a senior, Hamilton started all 12 games and recorded 29 tackles and a sack.

Evaluating roster chances of every Patriots draft pick

Pessimistic forecast: Hamilton doesn’t rise above the cellar he currently occupies among the Patriots’ group of defensive tackles. Offseason additions Terrance Knighton, Vincent Valentine and Markus Kuhn play better in training camp and Hamilton is one of the first cuts of the preseason. Remember, the Patriots have rising star Malcom Brown and dependable veteran Alan Branch atop the depth chart to begin with.

Optimistic forecast: Hamilton shows he can move well for a 319-pounder and forces the Patriots to take him on the practice squad (the final roster is pretty much out of the question). From there, Hamilton continues to work at his craft and eventually gets called up in the wake of injuries at the nose tackle position.

Realistic forecast: If you’ve been keeping up with the series, you’ll have heard this before: the pessimistic forecast mirrors the realistic one. You see, there is just too much standing in the way of Hamilton and even a practice squad spot. Unless Hamilton turns Foxboro upside down later this summer, he will be one of the easier cuts in training camp.
