Are The 2015 New England Patriots Better Than The 2007 Team?

Over the last few days, a common debate topic among Patriots fans and analysts has been regarding this year’s Pats team, versus the legendary 2007 team.

Who would you take?

First of all, it’s stupid as hell to be comparing a team that has been played two games to a team that nearly went 19-0, but this is the internet, and the internet is all about doing stupid things. In my mind, right now I’d take the 2007 squad over this year’s team, until the 2015 squad proves they can sustain this kind of success for a longer period of time. If this group keeps dominating (like I think they will) throughout the regular season and into the playoffs, I will change my selection. But for now, my vote goes to 2007.

When making the comparisons, obviously the first one you go to is the offenses, and how dominating they each are. 2007 had Randy Moss and Wes Welker, 2015 has Rob Gonkowski and Julian Edelman. I’ll give a slight edge to Moss/Welker, although not by much, because Jules is playing on another level right now, and Gronk is just unstoppable. Defensively, I like this year’s front seven better than 2007’s, but the secondary edge has to go to 2007. Asante Samuel was better than any corner New England has right now, and of course, how can you hate on Rodney Harrison.

However the deciding factor for the moment in my eyes, is the two offensive lines. I love what I saw from the Pats’ last week in Buffalo, but that was only one game. The 2007 team gave Brady all kinds of time for 18 games, until they decided to play the worst game of their lives in the Super Bowl. If the 2015 offensive line keeps playing like they have, and the secondary begins to take shape, I will gladly switch my pick. I think this year’s offense is much deeper than 2007’s was, and the young talent along the front seven is fun to watch.

Hopefully this year’s team can finish the job.

Note:

STOP MAKING THESE STUPID COMPARISONS, PEOPLE. I ONLY WROTE ABOUT IT BECAUSE IT’S A HOT TOPIC. DON’T JINX THIS TEAM, I CAN’T HANDLE ANOTHER 18-1 SEASON.

Okay. Now you can leave.
