New England Patriots Work Out TE Weslye Saunders, Eight Others

As the season opener slowly approaches, the New England Patriots have not stopped bringing in free agents for workouts in anticipation of more potential roster moves. Yesterday, it was reported by the always reliable Mike Reiss that the Patriots brought in nine players for a workout. Four of these players were linebackers, which happens to be a thin spot on the Pats depth chart.

Here is the full list:

  • FB Maurice Hagens
  • LB Josh Kaddu
  • TE Allen Reisner
  • FB Evan Rodriguez
  • DE Martez Wilson
  • LB Kion Wilson
  • LB Derrell Johnson
  • TE Weslye Saunders
  • LB Colton Underwood

I don’t think anything will come of these workouts, it should just be noted that the Patriots (as usual) are doing their due diligence on gathering information on available free agents. Injuries happen all the time in the NFL, so you always need to be prepared in the event of a big depth injury. If New England needs to bring in another linebacker, or a tight end, they now have some resources, and knowledge to do so.

It is interesting that the Pats still do not have a long-snapper on their active roster, and did not bring one in for a workout yesterday. They might just be comfortable with Rob Ninkovich as their long-snapper going forward. We will continue to monitor that situation.
