As you probably know by now, offensive guard Logan Mankins has been traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Another day, another surprising move from Bill Belichick.
What you don’t know, is Mankins reportedly refused to take a pay-cut before the Pats sent him away.
Two sources said #Pats asked G Logan Mankins to take pay cut before trade. Initial request was right after Pro Bowl last season. He refused

This is interesting, as this is not the first time Mankins has had problems with the team regarding money.
If you remember, Logan Mankins and the Patriots had a bit of a standoff back in 2010, when the big man held out for more money. He has a right to wanting more money, and I think he deserves it. While he may not be an elite guard anymore, he has played very well over the course of his career, and he should be rewarded for it. However, that attitude won’t get you very far in Foxboro. If you aren’t willing to take one for the team, Bill Belichick will have no problem sending you away.
Now, this was a happy split, as Belichick heaped praise onto Mankins after this news broke. But seeing that Mankins refused to take a pay-cut, once again shows that ‘The Patriot Way’ will always prevail in New England. The team felt like he was overpaid, so they decided to cut bait. In the long-run (and maybe in the short-run), this move will help the Patriots.
