Here’s some great news for Patriots fans. Both second year receiver Aaron Dobson and 2014 first round draft pick Dominique Easley are on the field today participating in their first practice of training camp. Both players are very important for the Patriots plans this season and getting them on the field practicing at this stage of the preseason is absolutely essential if they’re going to be ready to contribute at the start of the season.
Dobson, who is recovering from a foot injury, figures to be one of the Patriots top receivers in 2014, after coming off a rookie season where he amassed more than 500 receiving yards and four touchdowns. If Dobson can stay healthy, he offers Tom Brady a big target on the outside, standing at 6’3.
Easley offers much needed depth at defensive tackle, where the patriots are hoping he can help lessen the load on veterans Vince Wilfork and Tommy Kelly, both also recovering from serious injuries. If Easley can successfully recover from his ACL injury, he offers Bill Belichick quite a bit of versatility on the defensive line and could be just the piece the Patriots need to bring their pass rush to the next level.
It’s great to see both players back on the field today, but tomorrow’s joint practice with the Eagles will be important to watch vis-a-vis Dobson and Easley as the team will be in full pads. It’s a safe bet to think they will both be limited in those practices and will ease into contact drills over the next few days.
