The Patriots kicked off a week of football with the Redskins this morning, with a solid two hour practice session. More details will be posted here later, so be sure to check back for more information on how the Pats dominated today.
However it should be noted that tight end Rob Gronkowski was not on the field today, and he will miss these next two joint practices as well. From Mike Reiss of ESPN Boston:
New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski is not participating in joint practices with the Washington Redskins, which kicked off Monday morning.
Here is Jeff Howe’s confirmation that Gronkowski did not travel with the team, and did stay home in Foxboro:
Rob Gronkowski did not make the trip to Richmond, per source. Figured that was the case with today’s absence, but now we know.

Reiss later mentions that this is not a big deal, as Gronkowski is simply not ready to handle physical contact right now. The Patriots need him completely healthy for the regular season, so there is no need to push him right now.
Gronkowski is just not where he needs to be in terms of recovering from his injury, which explains why New England will continue holding out of team activities. The Patriots know by now how valuable Gronkowski is to this team, so I don’t blame them for being extra cautious. As long as the big man is ready on September seventh, I think we will all be very happy.
