Another day, another post defending Tom Brady. What else is new?
EA Sports has released their top quarterback ratings for Madden 15, and there are a few surprises. Here is the list:
1a. Peyton Manning-98
1b. Aaron Rodgers-98
3. Drew Brees-96
4a. Tom Brady-93
4b. Russell Wilson-93
I completely agree with Manning’s rating. The guy just had the best regular season in NFL history. Let’s give him his Madden props. However the rest of the top five is questionable.
Aaron Rodgers is an extremely talent signal caller, but how can you give him a 98 rating after being injured for a good portion of 2013? Staying on the field is a key aspect of being an elite quarterback, so I have no idea why he earned a 98 rating. Sure, he probably has the best arm in the game, but missing a few games has to dock him a few rating points. Drew Brees’ rating isn’t as egregious, but it is still too high. Outside of the dome he struggles, which should have something to do with his score.
But those mistakes are nothing compared to the final two.
RUSSELL WILSON?!?! REALLY?!?!
I like this kid. I really do. He has a lot of potential, and someday, he may be one of the best in the game. But right now, he isn’t in the same universe as these other guys. If it weren’t for his elite defense, and monstrous running game, I doubt he would have made the playoffs. Yes, he is a dual-threat. And yes, he has a good arm. But giving him the same rating as the great Tom Brady is ridiculous.
Now obviously, this is just a video game, and it shouldn’t be taken that seriously. But hey, there are millions of people that love playing this game, so I think it is only fair that they try to portray the athletes as accurately as possible.
Here is how I would have rated these five players:
