Football season is here.
That was Bill Belichick’s opening message in his press conference to start training camp. “Welcome to football season,” he said. “We’re here.”
After months of speculation and debate, we will now have the opportunity to see the Patriots in action. Belichick said that the team will be taking it day by day, trying to string a few good days together. Belichick also touched on Rob Gronkowski, who has been cleared to play:
“Rob’s always worked hard.” Belichick said. “Worked hard as a rookie, always worked hard.” He also mentioned that they only can tell when he’s here, obviously noting that he isn’t always with the team due to injury.
Here are a few more quotes. (From Mike Reiss of ESPN Boston)
We’re here. It’s always an exciting time of year to start training camp. I thought we had a real productive spring, with a lot of our players and a couple new coaching staff members [DL coach Brendan Daly and OL coach Dave DeGuglielmo], kind of pulling it all together. That’s really kind of to put us in position to start camp and kind of get it going today with some conditioning stuff.”
On Armond Armstead:
“Armond had a problem, an issue, come up later in the spring. Then it was resolved when it was resolved. It was a little bit of a process, but I think after everything had come through, it was the decision that he made. As the process was going on, we realized that was certainly a possibility.”
And to finish the press conference, he negleted to answer three questions regarding the text messages with Aaron Hernandez:
“I think that was addressed by a lawyer last week, and I don’t have any further comment on it.”
