Aaron Dobson, Eight Other New England Patriots Not Cleared For Camp

As the New England Patriots prepare to begin training camp, they have made a few moves that clear up the injury situation for a number of players.

They have placed five players on the PUP list to begin camp, and another four on the non-football injury list. The PUP list means they haven’t been cleared, while the non-football injury list is exactly how it sounds. Although, players that sustain an injury before entering the NFL (like Dominique Easley), can be placed on this list.

The biggest news to me is tight end Rob Gronkowski, and defensive tackle Vince Wilfork not appearing on either list. The Patriots will be counting on both of these players to play big roles for the team in 2014, so being cleared to practice in camp (for now), is great news.

As for the guys that haven’t been cleared yet, I don’t think we need to worry too much. These players can come back at any time during camp, and more importantly, before the the 2014 regular season begins. Aaron Dobson and Alfonzo Dennard are far too important to the team to rush back from injury, specifically Dobson, who will play a vital role in Tom Brady‘s receiving corps this year. No need to rush them back. When they are good and ready, then Bill Belichick should allow them to practice with the team.

The same can be said for Dominique Easley. He has the potential to really make a positive impact on this defense, so the Pats shouldn’t rush him back from his knee injury. His game is predicated on being explosive, making it extremely important that his knees are 100% upon returning.

Football is near. I can smell it.
