You know football season is nearing when Jets head coach Rex Ryan is back in the headlines, making comments about the Patriots. His latest isn’t too bad, but it certainly has “jazzed up” these last few days of no football.
“Somebody asked me if we focus on New England. Bullsh–. We’re focused on us. We’re focused on us and how are we going to be better. I have to be honest, I don’t worry about them. They need to worry about us. I think that’s really where we’re at now.”
I respect Ryan as a football coach. I really do. He is an absolute genius on the defensive side of the ball, and it is obvious he knows how to run a football team. If it weren’t for him, the Jets probably wouldn’t win more than two games per year. But I’m going to be brutally honest here.
The Jets suck.
It’s as simple as that. They don’t have the talent to compete with New England in 2014, and that’s that. They will be fighting to stay out of the AFC East basement as far as I’m concerned, as I think the Dolphins, and possibly even the Bills are better than them.
In terms of winning the division, the Patriots will not have to worry about the Jets. The talent gap is just too wide for New York to overcome. Now, does that mean the Jets will get pummeled by the Pats in both regular season games this year? Absolutely not. Rex Ryan always figures out a way to annoy Tom Brady, and regardless of what the final outcome is, they will give New England all they can handle.
I am sure Bill Belichick and company appreciate the extra motivation, Rex, but they don’t have to worry about you guys this year.
