But before we get to that play, the Patriots defense made an appearance on the list as well. Week 11 at Carolina, they gave up a 25 yard touchdown pass to Ted Ginn, which ultimately cost them the game.
Now, I don’t agree with this at all. Was it a superb play by Ginn? Absolutely. But this list is for quarterbacks only, and I honestly don’t think what Cam Newton did on that play was worthy of placing in the top five. Newton threw it on target to an open Ginn, but that was it. His receiver did the bulk of the work, not Cam. Anyway, I wanted to get that out there. I’m probably still a bit salty about how that game ended.
As for Brady’s play, there is no argument there. That last drive against the Saints to win the game was simply amazing, and he capped it off with a perfect dart to Kenbrell Thompkins. The only play that topped this was Aaron Rodgers willing the Packers into the playoffs with some great late game theatrics. I still wouldn’t put him above Brady, or Peyton Manning, but he deserves props for that game.
Some doubt Brady’s ability to work his “magic” at the end of games, but year after year, he continues to prove them wrong. Hopefully we will see more of this in 2014.
