NFL Rumors: CB Brandon Flowers To Go To The New England Patriots?

So this is interesting.

According to multiple reports, including Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald, and Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun, the New England Patriots have shown interest in free agent cornerback Brandon Flowers.

This comes as a surprise, but in all reality, I think we all could see this coming. Bill Belichick is the type of coach to look into all possible scenarios, even if they are obviously not going to happen (DeSean Jackson earlier in the year).

The cornerback position is probably the strongest positional group the Patriots have, as they managed to sign Darrelle Revis, and Brandon Browner earlier in the offseason. Adding a talent like Flowers would definitely help the group as a whole, but I just don’t see the need to bring him in. Chemistry is an extremely important aspect of a football team, and while I don’t necessarily know that the addition of Flowers would screw up the Pats current “harmony”, I wouldn’t risk it if I were running the team.

At the same time, if Flowers were willing to come and play here at a low price, and Belichick knew for a fact that Flowers wouldn’t create any problems, then I think giving him a shot would elevate the Pats secondary above Seattle’s elite group.

However when it is all said and done, I don’t think the Patriots should risk this move. We will see how this situation plays out over the next couple of days.

It would be a great signing. It’ll give the Pats the depth they need at the DB position overall. Browner is out for the first 4 weeks, Flowers will be able to start next to Revis until then. Even then, it gives the Pats the option of putting Browner at SS and hopfully give us glimpse of the thr great Rodney

Browner said in his opening presser with the team that BB had only mentioned playing him at corner. And I think that is the best spot for him. Browner is excellent when playing press coverage, and I don’t think they should spoil it by trying to put him at safety. As for those first four weeks, I think the combination of Logan Ryan and Alfonzo Dennard will be able to hold down the fort opposite Revis. Also take a look at their opponents those first four weeks: Miami, Minnesota, Oakland, and Kansas City. None of those teams throw the ball well.

Yes, but that does not mean he won’t come back. Rumors are he will make his decision in 2-3 days….guess we all shall see what happens then…

He said on his twitter that the offer they gave him was a slap in the face

          • Steve Diaz

Really? I could not find that comment. We should be able to give him what he wants if they back load the contract. We’ll have more than enough cap space next year. Oh well…….
