Today NFL Network continued its countdown of the top 100 players in the NFL, as voted on by the players.
Darrelle Revis is the next Patriot to make the cut, as he checked in at 37. Revis of course has spent most of his career with the Jets, before signing with Tampa Bay last year, and coming to New England for 2014.
In my opinion, Revis is the best cover corner in the league. Yes, Richard Sherman has probably made a bigger name for himself due to his off the field antics, but I truly think Revis is the better player. And that is no slight to Sherman. I would definitely put Sherman as the second best corner in the league, because he is a great player.
But what Revis brings to the table not only affects one player on the opposing offense, but it affects the entire game, from both an offensive standpoint, and a defensive standpoint. With Revis on your side, you can simply put him on an island with the best weapon on the field, and shift your entire secondary to help cover the rest of the field. This also allows Matt Patricia (Pats defensive coordinator) to become more aggressive with his play calls, which is when this defense is at its best.
If Revis can continue to prove that he can stay up there with the elite in 2014, he will move up the list significantly for the 2015 season.
