Every offseason, NFL Network runs a feature that counts down the top 100 players in the NFL. Tonight they released numbers 50 through 41, and the first Pats player on the list finally made an appearance.
Rob Gronkowski, who is widely regarded as the best tight end in football is ranked as the 41st best player in the league.
In terms of pure talent, I would have no problem with putting him in the top 10 of this list. There aren’t many players that have more talent than this guy. But if you want to be an elite player in this league, you have to consistently be on the field.
Gronk is an extremely talented player, but all of his injuries has forced him to miss a significant amount of games. He has missed a total of 14 games over the last two seasons due to injury, and to be completely honest, those injuries may have cost the Pats a championship or two.
Despite all of those missed games, the big tight end still managed to rack up 94 receptions, 1,382 yards, and 15 touchdowns. He is an athletic freak, who can not be covered in a one on one situation by anybody in this league. The Patriots will need him completely healthy in 2014 if they want to do any late season damage in the AFC.
