Jermichael Finley is meeting with a mystery team today, Finley’s agent Blake Baratz told Pro Football Talk Live. Is it that mystery team the Patriots?
The Pats have always loved anonymity when possible, which makes them likely to stay under the vail of “mystery team.” They have visited with veteran tight ends like Dustin Keller and Owen Daniels. Daniels eventually signed with the Ravens and Keller remains a free agent.
After speculation the Patriots would draft a tight end, they didn’t. After speculation they would sign a tight end in free agency, they still haven’t. The only tight ends currently on the Patriots roster are Rob Gronkowski, Michael Hoomanawanui and D.J. Williams.
The Patriots would hope to reignite Finley’s career and see him put up numbers like his 2011 season, where he caught 55 receptions for 767 yards and eight touchdowns. Finley turned 27-years-old last week. He has passed his physical and received clearance from Dr. Joseph Maroon, who performed Finley’s vertebrae fusion, but Finley would still have to pass a team-specific physical in order to take the field.
Finley’s most likely landing spot is still the Packers, but he would is wise to shop himself around and, maybe, just maybe, the Patriots in the picture.
