According to Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald, there has been a snag in contract negotiations between the New England Patriots, and first round pick Dominique Easley.
First-round pick Dominique Easley and the Patriots were closing in on a contract agreement last week, but negotiations have since hit a bump in the road, according to a source. It doesn’t sound like a deal is imminent at this point.
This isn’t necessarily unusual, as Howe points out that only 10 of the 32 first round picks are currently signed. Easley has been practicing in Gillette, but he has yet to report to OTA’s. Easley is recovering from a severe knee injury, so that could be something that is holding up the negotiations. I am sure that New England wants to make sure that his knee will be totally fine, before making a big commitment to the former Gator.
The deadline for players to sign their contracts is by training camp, as they are not allowed to participate without a contract. I am not too worried about this, as the Pats still have plenty of time to negotiate before camp, but this is certainly something we will keep an eye on going forward.
Easley is one of two Pats rookies who have yet to sign a deal, with quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo being the other unsigned guy.
