Hello, and welcome to another edition of ‘The Patriot Way’, your number one source to New England Patriots news and analysis from around the web.
Mike Reiss over at ESPN Boston gives us the highlights from Dominique Easley’s introduction with the Patriots.
Bleacher Report’s James Christensen gathers five experts’ draft grades for the Patriots, and conveniently puts them into one slideshow. The common thought among these analysts is that the Pats missed an opportunity to give Tom Brady some weapons as he nears the end of his career. I disagree with these guys, because Bill Belichick, while not in the conventional sense, has given his quarterback a lot of help for the upcoming 2014 season. He gave him a scary defense, and in the draft, he fortified the middle of the offensive line, an area that has cost Brady a few playoff wins.
Here is an entire draft report card for the AFC East, from Doug Kyed of NESN. Kyed gives the Pats a ‘B’ grade, which I think is spot on. They picked for the future, but at the same time, they managed to infuse some quality talent that will help them win now.
Finally, we come back to Mike Reiss who breaks down who the Patriots could have drafted instead of quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. I would have liked to see New England draft defensive end Scott Crichton out of Oregon State. Some added depth out on the edge would be extremely beneficial to Chandler Jones, and Rob Ninkovich.
