The New England Patriots just keep racking up the undrafted free agents. According to nepatriotsdraft.com, the Pats have signed three more undrafted guys since I last updated their signings (as they mention, these signings are unofficial until confirmed by the team).
The new additions are wide receiver Ja-Mes Logan out of Ole Miss, cornerback Malcolm Butler from West Alabama, and defensive tackle Seali’i Epenesa out of UCLA. New England didn’t really address the tight end and receiver positions in the draft, but they appear to be making up for it in this undrafted free agency frenzy. The signing of Logan makes four tight ends/receivers signed, which will help bolster depth, and make for good competition this summer.
It also looks like the Pats will be bringing five guys in for a tryout:
Tevin Hood, DT, Arizona
Calvin Tonga, NT, Colorado State
Taylor McCuller, ILB, West Texas A&M
Kyle Harbridge RB Saint Francis
Jordan Love CB Towson
I personally like what the Patriots are doing with these undrafted guys, specifically at the tight end position. The signing of ECU’s Justin Jones has me intrigued not only because he was a top prospect before missing the entire 2013 season, but because of his ridiculous size. This dude is 6’8, and weighs around 277 pounds. That makes Rob Gronkowski look like Ryan Allen. He is raw, but he has potential to really make a positive impact in New England’s passing attack.
We will have to wait and see.
