With their second to last pick in the 2014 NFL draft, the Patriots have selected safety Jemea Thomas out of Georgia Tech.
Adding some depth to the safety position was something that needed to be done in this draft, and they have finally done it, albeit at the very end of the round. New England is set with Devin McCourty and Duron Harmon as their current starters, but with Steve Gregory gone, they had to get some depth to go behind those two.
Thomas is a physical safety, but more importantly, he is durable. In his four year career at Georgia Tech, he played in 54 games, an average of over 13 a year.
The Patriots have one more pick left, and then the 2014 draft will be complete. They have had an interesting draft, going with a couple of offensive lineman, a few defensive lineman, a running back, a quarterback, and now a safety.
He amassed 234 tackles, nine interceptions, and five sacks in his four year stint at Georgia Tech.
