With their first pick of the sixth round, the New England Patriots have taken another offensive lineman. This time it is guard Jon Halapio out of the University of Florida.
I think that this pick solidifies the notion of Bill Belichick and company focusing on stabilizing the offensive line in this draft. Halapio is the third offensive lineman picked by New England this year, and while these picks certainly aren’t sexy, and they do have other needs, the Pats need to ensure that they have quality depth to protect their most valuable asset, quarterback Tom Brady.
The Pats have yet to address their biggest need, the tight end position. Coming into this draft, I thought that it was a given that Belichick and company would go after a few tight ends in the draft. However they have decided against it, leaving us to wonder whether or not they will address this need in free agency before the season begins.
The Patriots next pick is the 22nd pick of the sixth round, which is the 198th overall pick.
