After the Patriots selected quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo with their second pick of the NFL draft, I think we all assumed that Ryan Mallett would soon be headed to Houston. However according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, that won’t happen.
Definitely would not count on a Ryan Mallett trade to Houston or anywhere. Mallett expected back in Foxboro.

Mallett is in the last year of his contract, so a trade would make sense. Garoppolo appears to be the new backup to Tom Brady, and maybe his eventual replacement. There is no definite number, but reports suggest that Mallett would fetch a third or fourth round pick. The reason for this is he hasn’t gotten much game-time in his NFL career. Brady hates coming out of games, and obviously Brady hasn’t sustained any significant injuries in Mallett’s time in Foxboro.
We will see how this situation plays out. New England got a talented player in Garoppolo, so at the very least, we will have a fun competition this year between Mallett and Garoppolo for the right to call themselves back up to Brady.
