We still have a little while until the Patriots are on the clock, but one of the tight ends they may have wanted is off the board. Washington’s Austin Seferian-Jenkins was just selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, with the 38th overall pick in the draft.
The Patriots biggest need as of right now is adding to the tight end position. I personally wasn’t as high on Jenkins as some were, but he still is a great talent, and it would have been nice if he fell to New England.
The top two remaining tight ends left are Texas Tech’s Jace Amaro, and Notre Dame’s Troy Niklas. In my opinion, Amaro is the better receiver between those two, but Niklas has the potential to be the better complete player. We will see if Bill Belichick decides to pull the trigger on either of those two in a little while.
Jenkins amassed 146 receptions, 1,840 yards, and a whopping 21 touchdowns in his three year career with the Huskies.
