NFL Draft 2014: New York Jets Select Tight End Jace Amaro

You guys want another reason to hate the Jets? They just selected tight end Jace Amaro.

Amaro was one of the top remaining targets for the Patriots, and being a talented pass catcher, he was someone that could have really helped elevate Tom Brady’s aerial attack.

With Amaro gone, the tight end-needy Patriots will probably turn their attention to Notre Dame’s Troy Niklas. If they do in fact take Niklas, they will be getting a solid player, and probably more complete than Amaro. But Amaro’s ability to take advantage of mismatches over the middle was why I wanted him in New England. His physical frame allows him to simply “post up” against safeties, and he was fast enough to blow past most linebackers. Now, the Pats defense will have to deal with him twice a year. Jamie Collins and that group of linebackers better be ready.

Amaro racked up 106 receptions, 1,352 yards, and seven touchdowns in 2013. Niklas only had 32 catches, 498 yards, and five touchdowns.

Only a little longer until we see what Bill Belichick and company have up their sleeves.
