The New York Jets have selected safety Calvin Pryor with their first pick in this first round of the 2014 NFL draft.
New York has a lot of problems, and there was no way they could address all of their needs with one pick. But if the Jets want to dethrone the Patriots (yeah right), they need to add some talent to their team, and fast. Pryor is a good player, and I think they are hoping that he will help slow down the Tom Brady-led New England offense.
Rex Ryan and company haven’t been very consistent with their first round picks in the past, as their past eight draft picks have been “hit or miss” kinds of picks. Take a look at who they have selected in past years:
Vernon Gholston , Dustin Keller, Mark Sanchez, Kyle Wilson, Muhammad Wilkerson, Quinton Coples, Dee Milliner, Sheldon Richardson.
Only time will tell if Pryor will be a bust or not in New York. The Jets have really struggled in the AFC East over the last couple of years, and they better hope that this selection helps them in the divisional race.
