According to Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun, the New England Patriots were one of two teams that met with wide receiver Marqise Lee this past week (Detroit was the other team).
USC All-American wide receiver Marqise Lee visited the New England Patriots and Detroit Lions this week, according to league sources. Lee has previously visited the Baltimore Ravens and also has visits with the Carolina Panthers and New Orleans Saints. He has met with the New York Jets, according to a league source. Lee was named the Pac-12 Conference Offensive Player of the Year as a sophomore, when he caught a career-high 118 passes for 1,712 yards and 14 touchdowns. Lee is a projected first-round draft pick. As a junior last season, Lee’s production fell to 57 catches for 791 yards and four touchdowns as he dealt with injuries.
The Pats definitely could use some help at the wide receiver position, but I don’t like the idea of them spending a first round pick on a wideout. Lee certainly has talent, but I don’t see first round, mega-star talent. I would rather see New England target a tight end, or the defensive line on day one of the draft, as they are much bigger needs as of right now.
