According to Mike Reiss (and John Clayton), defensive end Will Smith is set to visit the Patriots today.

Even though the Pats have two solid starting defensive ends in Rob Ninkovich and Chandler Jones, adding quality depth to the edge should be a priority for Bill Belichick and company. One of the biggest reasons they lost last January to Denver, is because of the lack of pressure they put on Peyton Manning. Ninkovich and Jones need breaks, and when they come off of the field, someone has to continue producing. I think Smith could be a solid addition for this defense.
Smith did miss all of the 2013 season with an ACL tear, and given his age, he may not be effective anymore. But if there is one coach in this league that can get one more year out of him, Bill Belichick is the man to do it.
In nine seasons in the NFL, Smith has totaled 459 tackles, 67.5 sacks, 20 forced fumbles, and he even has a couple of interceptions.
