The Patriots continued their solid offseason today, as they re-signed center Ryan Wendell.

The deal is for two years, and it can max out at $8.15 million. Field Yates has the details:

Coming into the offseason, I wanted New England to upgrade the interior of their offensive line, because of the poor play in 2013 from Wendell, and Dan Connolly. But as of right now, Wendell is the best option out there. Dan Connolly will be making way too much money in 2014, so I think he will have to restructure his deal if he wants to remain with New England.

I believe the Pats will target guards and centers in this year’s draft, but for now, re-signing Wendell was a smart move.

Damn… I am not looking forward to the game vs Detroit. I hope Wendell and Connolly improve greatly from last season.

They’re gonna pay him way too much, c’mon seriously?!

Maximum of $8.15 million. Doesn’t mean he will get that much.

      • Mattia Rizzo

I know, but it’s still a lot. He could be back to 2012 for this year but that’s not gonna deny that he is an undersized center that could be overwhelmed by stronger defensive linemen.

Pats were smart to re-sign Wendell. They need to draft a C maybe Weston Richburg from Colorado State… 3rd or 4th round. Wendell is only a patch and is not effective against quality defensive players. Connolly is another issue that has to be dealt with.

I agree. And I think Connolly is a bigger issue. Set to earn way too much.
