According to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, the Patriots are one of four teams interested in running back Maurice Jones-Drew.
The Daily News has learned that the Jets, Patriots, Dolphins and Steelers are in the hunt to land veteran running back Maurice Jones-Drew. The teams are expected to meet with the Jones-Drew camp at league meetings this week.
The Pats may lose LeGarrette Blount via free agency, but I don’t think that makes running back a huge need. New England has two top guys in Stevan Ridley and Shane Vereen, and while Brandon Bolden isn’t nearly as talented as Vereen and Ridley, he is a capable back. Now, if MJD is willing to sign with the Patriots for a very small deal, then that could work out well. Having a guy like Jones-Drew to spell Ridley would be nice, not only because it would allow Vereen to rest up for passing situations, but if MJD returns to his old self, the Pats would have one of the best backfields in the league.
We will keep an eye on this situation over the next couple of days.
