A year after an Achilles’ injury, the 32 year-old defensive tackle was due $11.6 million this season and if the Patriots are to let him go, they would save themselves roughly $8 million against the 2014 salary cap.
Although Vince has served his ten years in New England as an explempary role model on and off the field, his departure would surely be missed. However, this is a business and good teams need to make hard decisions to remain competitive. Wilfork will find another job somewhere, play for a few more years, and likely be inducted to the hall of fame as a Patriot someday.
If this is indeed the end of Big Vince’s run in Foxboro, I’m sure I speak for everyone when I say that while he may leave, he will never be forgotten.
