One of the top remaining needs for the Patriots is adding to the wide receiver position. They are extremely weak in this area, as Danny Amendola, and Kenbrell Thompkins would be their starters if the season began today.
I don’t think Steve Smith wasn’t going to be New England’s first choice, but according to Eric Edholm, they are one of five teams that have reached out to the former Panther.
Teams reaching out on WR Steve Smith: Ravens, Patriots, Chargers, Redskins, Seahawks. Smith expected to talk to Ravens’ Gary Kubiak tonight.

Smith is a proven veteran, and as long as the Pats sign someone like Emmanuel Sanders or Julian Edelman, I would be fine with Smith joining the team. But I don’t really like the idea of Smith serving as one of Tom Brady’s top targets. He is getting older, and spending an entire career in one place doesn’t bode well for him adapting into the Patriots offensive system quickly.
