Today’s big news has revolved around Darrelle Revis, but there are other NFL players that exist in this universe, and one of them is reportedly gaining the interest of the Patriots.

According to NESN’s Doug Kyed, the Pats are interested in wide receiver Jason Avant, although they have yet to schedule a visit.

The Patriots have expressed interest in signing free-agent receiver Jason Avant, according to a source. A signing is not imminent, however, and the Patriots have not planned to host Avant on a free-agent visit.

Avant has spent his entire career in Philadelphia, and while he has never put up ridiculous numbers, he would be a solid depth signing for New England. The Pats are thin at the receiver position, especially with Julian Edelman in the open market. It has been rumored that the Ravens want to snatch him up, but there have been no official announcements. The Patriots do have a nice group of young receivers to work with, but I am sure that Tom Brady would like to have a veteran out there to trust in the critical situations.
