Well, that didn’t take long.
Just hours after free agency began, Aqib Talib was out the door and on his way to Denver. How much does that hurt the Patriots? A whole lot right now, but possibly not much at all in the end. Talib has had injury concerns since his arrival in New England and he’s still got off-field concerns as well.
In fact, I think the amount of money Talib got from Denver ($57 million for six years) is WAY too much money for a guy with his track record. There was no way the Patriots were going to match that. Talented player, but way too much risk for that paycheck.
So now comes the big question: Will the New England Patriots make a real push for Darrelle Revis? If this fantasy in fact becomes a reality, I’m going to need someone to pinch me.
ESPN Boston’s Mike Reiss’ interest has certainly been piqued:
Could Darrelle Revis really be in play for the Patriots? I’ve considered it a long shot to this point, but Talib’s defection, coupled with the Buccaneers’ plans to release Revis if a trade can’t be consummated, alters the picture a bit.
And ESPN’s Adam Schefter implies the Pats could soon act aggressively:
And now with CB Aqib Talib a Bronco, Patriots figure to make a real push for Darrelle Revis.

If the Tampa Bay Bucs are unable to trade Revis away before 4 pm ET on Wednesday, March 12th, he’ll hit the open market. While the Patriots are just as likely to pass on Revis and acquire someone like Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, I say it’s time to go big or go home.
