According to Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald, talks between the Pats and Julian Edelman have “intensified” over the last 24 hours.
The Patriots have gotten aggressive in their ongoing negotiations with wide receiver Julian Edelman in the final 24 hours before free agency in the attempt to keep him away from the open market.
As Howe later mentions, there has been mutual interest between the two sides all offseason, which is a positive sign towards them getting a deal done before free agency officially kicks off. The release of T.J. Moe is also a good sign, although I wouldn’t put too much stock into that.
Edelman is one of two high profile free agents the Patriots are trying to keep, with cornerback Aqib Talib being the other player. I don’t think New England will be able to retain both of them, but based off of this report, I think they are getting closer and closer to a deal with Edelman. The Redskins are reportedly interested in Talib, which may force the Pats to let him walk.
