Hello and welcome to The Patriot Way – New England Patriots news and links from around the web.
- Mike Reiss shares his thoughts after the initial “legal tampering” time of free agency. It would be a significant blow, at least initially, if the Patriots lose Aqib Talib, Julian Edelman, or both. Talib plays the more important position, but carries more question marks and the bigger price tag.
- There appears to be at least one other team definitely in the Talib sweepstakes. To be honest I’m not sure what scares me more, the fact that THAT team is interested in the player (given their free agent track record) or the fact that that team has a bunch of cap space to make the move.
- Moving Ryan Mallett this offseason makes the most sense for both the player and the Patriots. The move would give Mallett a chance to start with a new organization, auditioning for either that starting position long term (ideally) or for another team that may be interested. The move would also ensure that the Patriots receive compensation for developing Mallett these past few years.
- Of course, if Mallett were to be moved, the Patriots would look to bring in a new backup, possibly through the draft.
