I told you last week Texans wouldn’t be signing Matt Cassel. And they won’t be trading for Ryan Mallett, either.

If the Texans can take care of their quarterback issues via free agency, it will allow them to draft Jadeveon Clowney with the first pick in the draft. If you thought J.J. Watt made the Houston defense frightening, just imagine what it would be like if he were to be paired with Clowney.
Bleacher Report’s Matt Miller said that shipping off Mallett would have netted the Pats a third round pick, something that would be great value for New England. Mallett has been on the sidelines his entire career, and while it is nice to have a good backup to Tom Brady, it probably would be better to gain an extra third round pick, to improve weakened areas of your team.
