Analysis Of Todd McShay's Newest Mock Draft

Dec 27, 2013; Houston, TX, USA; Minnesota Golden Gophers defensive lineman Ra

NFL draft expert Todd McShay released the third version of this year’s mock draft yesterday, and he has the Patriots taking defensive tackle Ra’Shede Hageman, coming out of Minnesota.

This is an interesting pick, mainly because the majority of mock drafts have had the Pats taking a tight end in the first round. However Hageman definitely has talent, and he would fill a huge need for New England. Here are a couple of tweets McShay sent out regarding Hageman:

If he lives up to his talent, the Patriots defense will be rewarded in a big way. He can push the pocket and create pressure up the middle, which is the number one thing you have to do to disrupt a quarterback’s rhythm. This is something that has been missing from the Pats for a long time, and it may have cost them a few wins in the playoffs.

But as McShay mentions, Hageman has a “hot and cold motor”, which will scare away a lot of NFL coaches.

I personally think the Pats should still go with Jace Amaro at pick 29, but because of the talent Hageman brings to the table, I wouldn’t be mad about this selection either.
