NFL Draft: Mike Evans Meets With The Patriots

According to Brian Smith, beat reporter for the Texans, former Texas A&M receiver Mike Evans has met with the Patriots in the last 24 hours.

This is a bit surprising, given that New England doesn’t really need a receiver, specifically one that will most likely be long gone before they come on the clock. Evans is a physical freak, and his height is something that NFL teams absolutely love. 6’5 receivers don’t come around very often, and when they do, they usually are snatched up in a hurry.

The only way I see the Pats making a realistic run at Evans, is if they trade up in the draft, in an attempt to add a serious play-maker to Tom Brady’s offense in the final years of Brady’s career. I am sure he would appreciate having Evans on the outside, but it just doesn’t seem like something Bill Belichick would do. I still believe going after Jace Amaro towards the end of the first round is the safest thing New England can do, because they not only get a talented player, but they fill a huge hole in their offense.
