Based on a report from the Boston Herald’s Jeff Howe, it sounds like linebacker Brandon Spikes won’t be back with the Patriots in 2014. This hardly comes as a surprise, given how things ended with the two sides, but we now know for sure (99%), that the big guy will be playing for someone else next season.
Here is what Howe had to say on Spikes:
The two sides haven’t spoken about a new deal this offseason, according to a source. So, unless something drastically changes, Spikes’ days with the Patriots are over. He’ll hit free agency March 11.
Spikes isn’t a bad player, far from it. He is one of the best run stoppers this league has to offer, and his general enthusiasm for the game will be sorely missed in Foxboro. But his awful pass defense, and apparent lack of off the field discipline has him headed out of New England, and according to Howe, he won’t be coming back anytime soon.
The former Florida Gator racked up 286 tackles, five forced fumbles, two interceptions, and one sack in his four year career with the Patriots.
