The last eight months has been a rough time for the NFL, as controversy has swirled constantly. From The Riley Cooper incident, to this whole Richie Incognito business, the league has  dealt with a lot of off the field distractions centered around racial slurs.

But they are now looking to do something about it, as evidenced by the possible institution of a new rule. ESPN said earlier this morning, that the NFL may institute a rule where teams will be penalized 15 yards, if the N-word is used on the field.

The head of the Fritz Pollard Alliance, which monitors diversity in the NFL, expects the league to institute a rule where players would be penalized 15 yards for using the N-word on the field.

John Wooten, the head of the Fritz Pollard Alliance, anticipates that the NFL’s competition committee will enact the rule at the owners’ meeting next month.
