Yesterday, Karen Guregian of the Boston Herald reported that Johnny Manziel reached out to Tom Brady before the Scouting Combine, for some advice. Today Manziel spoke to the media, and he a gave a little insight as to what he and Brady talked about.
Here are a few quotes from Manziel (via Christopher Price of weei.com):
“It was kind of really funny conversation at first, and worked our way into a little more serious conversation. It was really nice, and very thankful for him to be able to extend a hand out to me in the situation that I’m in.
“The big thing was just enjoy the process. He kind of gave me a little joke — if I can teach him how to run like I can, he’ll do anything in the world for me. It was pretty funny hearing it from him.”
Former Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron also revealed that he has spoken with Brady, and not only that, but he said that he models his game after the three time champion. Here is a quote from McCarron, taken from a terrific interview conducted a few weeks ago by Andy Gray, of Sports Illustrated:
I think I play the game like Tom Brady, when it comes to how I move in the pocket. He was underrated coming out of college and I feel the same way. Hopefully when I get my opportunity, I’ll be able to take it and run with it.
The Patriots won’t be targeting Johnny Manziel in this year’s draft, but they may go after McCarron in later rounds, to possibly groom him as Tom Brady’s future successor.
